NO, NO, NO...Not Wine, Too!

Cape Vineyards - South Africa
The wine we drink today is virtually the same as the wine drunk in ancient times.  Over 80% of the grape varietals that are used today in viniculture have been in cultivation virtually unchanged for last 2500 years.  That remarkable consistency makes them susceptible to all of the dangers associated with climate change.

While lovers of history and terroir may take great delight in this knowledge, it does put wine makers and drinkers at risk in the face of climate change. Its pedigree and timelessness is precisely what makes it vulnerable.
