Trumpist Preparing to Roll-Back Auto Emission Standards

The Trump administration is preparing to roll-back automobile auto emission standards proposed by the Obama administration.  This roll-back of what was a signature climate change mitigation plan will result in hundreds of millions of metric tons of CO2 being pumped into the atmosphere over the next 15 years.  Would you be surprised to learn that the policymakers who worked on this roll-back plan are primarily a group of climate change deniers?

The correspondence, released by the Environmental Protection Agency to the Sierra Club under a public records request, underscores the rising influence of climate denialist groups, which jumped from the fringe to the mainstream in the Trump administration and now hold sway in federal policymaking. Mr. Ebell of the C.E.I. think tank, which challenges “global warming alarmism” and spearheaded the opposition to the Paris Agreement, was chosen to lead Mr. Trump’s environmental transition team.

Would you also be surprised to learn that real scientists think that the “science” applied to justify this roll back of emission standards is pretty much a bunch of bunk.

But many experts, and even an official inside the Environmental Protection Agency, are skeptical of those new conclusions. Researchers have identified numerous errors and faulty assumptions in the administration’s latest analyses, some of which violate the basic principles of economics.
