Mana Pools
National Park in Zimbabwe is a World Heritage Site and one of the last true
wildernesses in the world. It is the only park in Africa where you are allowed
to walk alone, albeit at your own risk. It is also one of the best places to
view painted wolves. Many of the photographs in this article were taken at the
den. Nick visited the dens under the guidance and supervision of Painted Dog
Conservation (PDC) and ZimParks in preparation for the campaign to raise global
awareness of this endangered species. Denning season is a sensitive time for
the painted wolves and Nick and PDC would strongly discourage den visits for
reasons unrelated to conservation. They would, however, strongly encourage
visitors to thoroughly enjoy painted wolf sightings but always treat them with
respect and observe the sensible Mana Pools’ “Code of Conduct”. --- Africa Geographic
